Watch What’s In Your Lip Balm!

Do you brush your teeth at least twice a day? Why take care of INSIDE of your mouth but not OUTSIDE?

Did you know your lips have no oil or sweat glands so they are the most sensitive parts of our body that deserve tender loving care.

You need to use a LIP BALM but NOT just any lip balms!

Sadly, there is a REAL shortage of lip balms that are considered healthy, clean and vegan.

Let me decode some of the undesirable ingredients in the lip balms. SHOCKINGLY, I find many of these ingredients in ONE very popular lip balm! So- please read the ingredients on your lip balms. You do need a lip balm but be smart about it because lip balms could be ingested!

AVOID THESE 5 ingredients AT ALL COSTS especially in a LIP BALM:

Octinoxate (Sunscreen)-Octinoxate, also called Octyl methoxycinnamate or (OMC), is a UV filter. According to SafeCosmetics.Org, it can be absorbed rapidly through skin. Octinoxate has been detected in human urine, blood and breast milk, which indicates that humans are systemically exposed to this compound  Octinoxate is an endocrine disruptor that mimics estrogen and can disrupt thyroid function.  It is banned in many states due to bleaching of the coral reef and coral death.

Oxybenzone  (Sunscreen), According to EWG, oxybenzone has been detected in nearly every American’s blood. Studies have shown that oxybenzone may have an impact on the endocrine system (the glands in your body that make hormones), Andrews said, adding that in one instance, increased levels of oxybenzone in adolescent boys led to lower testosterone levels. It is banned in many states due to bleaching of the coral reef and coral death.

White Petrolatum – Petrochemical belongs to the gas station, not on your lips. The primary concern with petrolatum is the potential contamination with PAHs. The National Toxicology Program (NTP) considers PAHs as a class to contain reasonably anticipated carcinogens; the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) lists 14 PAHs as probable or possible carcinogens and one PAH as a known carcinogen. A study on Long Island, NY, found that those women with high levels of PAH-DNA adducts had a 50 percent greater risk of breast cancer.[6] The formation of PAH-DNA adducts, an indicator of PAH exposure, is linked to cancer development.

Lanolin– Also referred to as wool wax, wool fat or wool grease is made up of oily substance extracted from the wool of animals such as sheep. These extracts are actually refined as well as purified into the form of lanolin cream. One can suffer from chronic lanolin allergy where one not only suffers from rashes but also burns and stings. It can cause one much discomfort.

Phenol-  This material is banned in EU but not in USA.  According to the National Institutes of Health, phenol is toxic and people who are hypersensitive to it could experience death or serious side effects at very low exposures. Plus, it is rapidly absorbed and can cause toxicity throughout the entire body. Typically, death and severe toxicity result from phenol’s effects on the central nervous system.

To your health! xo!!
